Manasota Key

Manasota Key is a barrier island off the coast of Englewood; quoted as the “Gem and the Heart of the Sun Coast”, “a bit of Heaven on Earth”, “a place unspoiled by high rises and high prices”, and “where the “living” is easy”. Got your attention yet?

Famed women’s tennis phenom, Martina Navratilova, and popular and prolific country singer, Tim McGraw, have been known to winter at their MK beachfront mansions. With its’ public boat ramp just south of the intra-coastal drawbridge, MK is a perfect spot to launch your watercraft of choice with quick and easy access to Lemon Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. It is also a place to see friendly harmless manatees during mating season and mothers with calves lumbering along.

South of Manasota Beach, explore a canopied road where extraordinary residences and some 50’s styled beach homes nestled in dunes or tucked neatly behind established buffer of trees reside. As you approach twists and turns in the road, you will bear witness to stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico and Blind Pass Beach. A 4-acre artist and writers’ retreat, The Hermitage, invites talent from around the globe to grow and nurture their talents in restored historic homes located directly along the shoreline. Attendees are invited to stay for up to six-weeks and, in return,  are asked to provide payback services to the community.

Manasota Key is a designated wildlife sanctuary where beaches are maintained in a more natural, less developed manner. MK is also known as the turtle nesting capital of Southwest Florida with nesting beginning in March peaking between May-August. Eggs incubate in 45 to 60 days which culminates about Oct. 31. Florida accounts for more than 90 percent of the loggerhead nesting grounds in the United States.
